Lou Grande is a trans masculine artist of Italian-American descent based in Kansas. Raised and educated in rural Kansas, Lou earned BAs in English and theology from the University of Saint Mary and a master’s in theological studies. Before transitioning at 30, Lou worked in the human rights office of the Catholic Church in Kansas City and at a homeless shelter in Wichita. Since transitioning, Lou has focused on immigration and refugee resettlement, carrying a deep commitment to marginalized communities. His art reflects this ethos, drawing on 1970s pop art and New York’s queer art history to explore gender diversity, non-conformity, and resilience, using acrylics and found materials to document and celebrate lives that resist categorization.
